Summer Horse Trails

Baker Park Reserve (9.0 miles) trail map

Located on Lake Independence, Baker Park Reserve's 2,700 acres offer diverse outdoor activities in natural surroundings.

Parking lot is located off Homestead Trail (County Road 201) about halfway between County Road 6 and County Road 24. Parking for up to 12 trailers. Baker offers scenic, mowed trails for horseback riders.

Carver Park Reserve (6.0 miles) trail map

Located on the western edge of the Twin Cities, Carver Park Reserve supports a large wildlife population of trumpeter swans, osprey, mink, white-tailed deer, barred owls and numerous waterfowl and songbirds.

The park reserve is home to is Lowry Nature Center, the first public environmental education center of its kind in the state. Park visitors of all ages are delighted to discover the park's rolling wooded terrain and interconnected lakes and marshes.

Parking lot is located off Carver County Road 11, one quarter mile to the west of the picnic entrance road. Water pump available. Limited parking available.

Crow-Hassan Park Reserve (10.6 miles) trail map

Located on the Crow River, Crow-Hassan Park Reserve is a 2,600-acre park, this large, uninterrupted expanse of land offers a feeling of wilderness and solitude.

No matter what time of the year one visits, the 600-acre restored prairie is colorful and ever-changing. Deer, fox, coyotes, trumpeter swans, hawks and bald eagles may be seen from the many miles of trails that wind through the park.

Over 10 miles of trail wind along the east periphery of the park reserve. During the winter season, a 5-mile trail is located in the northern part of the park, with access from the Riverbend group camp site. Each horse and rider, age 16 or older, must have either the annual or daily permit.

Parking lot is located at the trailhead, on a gravel road off Park Drive just northeast of Hassan Parkway. Accommodates up to 30 trailers. Overnight group campsite available by reservation; hitching posts, water pump.

Elm Creek Park Reserve (21.05 miles) trail map

Parking lot is located off County Road 121, west of Pineview, just north of 125th Ave. North. Accommodates up to 12 trailers. Group campsite available by reservation; hitching posts, water pump.

This 10-foot wide, mowed grass trail consists of two main loops and a connection northwest along Diamond Creek. A horse trailhead is provided on County Road 121. This facility includes a trailhead parking access as well as provision for a horse reservation group camp with space for up to 40 users. An annual or daily permit is required for each rider age 16 or older. For information, contact the Park District Administrative Center at 763/559-9000.

Lake Rebecca Park Reserve (9.2 miles) trail map

A horse trail loop surrounds the periphery of the park reserve. Overnight group campsite available by reservation. The horse trailer parking lot is located off of County Road 50 on the north side of the park and accommodates up to 10 trailers. Use of the horse trails requires an annual or daily permit for each rider age 16 or older.

The glacial ridges and hilly terrain of northeast Scott County make Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve is popular with horseback riders.

With the exception of the trails, this 2,400-acre park reserve remains undeveloped. The extensive forests make this the best park in the system for woodland songbirds and has been designated as an "Important Bird Area" by the National Audubon Society.
Use of horseback trails requires a pass. A $5 daily pass for each horse can be purchased at trailheads. An annual permit is also available.

Parking lot is located on Sunset Lake Road, east of County Road 75, just past Murphy Lake in the central part of the park. Hitching post available. Space for up to 8 trailers.
